‘Pamzo’ believes Gor is the team to beat, tips them to win another league title

Former international Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo has explained why Gor Mahia have the better chance to retain the 2023-24 FKF Premier League title ahead of main title rivals Tusker and other opponents for a second successive run this season.

With only two rounds of matches played so far, K’Ogalo under head coach Johnathan McKinstry, are currently sitting fourth on the 18-team table with four points from two matches. They kicked off their season with a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka before gunning down Ulinzi Stars 2-0 in their second fixture of the campaign.

However, according to Omollo, who once handled Gor Mahia, the reigning champions are still the favourites to win this season’s title despite threats posed by Tusker, who came second last season, one point shy of winners K’Ogalo on a dramatic final day, because they managed to retain most of their players and have a good record when playing away from home.

“What I know is the league will be interesting and I know the first game for Gor Mahia they managed a draw against Sofapaka but one thing is for sure, the first game of the season does not have any effect (on the title race) a lot,” said Omollo, adding: “But if you look at the kind of signings Gor Mahia have done especially in the attacking area, it shows you they are very serious to retain the title again this season, one Gor have not lost any players apart from Peter Lwasa and Dennis Nganga, they have gone ahead to sign Kevin Juma from Nzoia Sugar, a very good defender and will definitely be a good cover for them.”

Omollo continued: “Gor have been together for a very long time and if you look out, and some of the players in their squad are serving their sixth year with the team, players like Ernest Wendo and this is already an advantage to the team. Also, you find players like Benson Omalla have made great strides, he is not the same Omalla from the time he joined the team, he has improved and all this comes to the advantage of Gor.” However, the former international, explained why K’Ogalo could miss out on the title by saying: “The only problem that can hinder Gor, is their fans.”
