Omanyala headlines Team Kenya for Glasgow World Indoor Championships
By Joel Sang, February 9, 2024
Athletics Kenya has named a formidable team to represent the country in the upcoming World Indoor Championships scheduled for March 1–3, 2024, at the Commonwealth Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
Ferdinand Omanyala, Africa’s fastest man, headlines the squad and will hope to register another positive outcome after his previous exploit. He started his indoor tour on a morale-boosting note after timing a national record of 6.52 as he dominated the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting on February 2.
In the men’s 800m, Collins Kipruto and Noah Kibet will be the country’s ambassadors. Vivian Kiprotich will be the only Kenyan competitor in that category for women. The top thing on her mind is to win a gold medal and emulate Mary Moraa, who has had an excellent campaign in that discipline.
Reynold Cheruiyot, the world U20 reigning champion, and Vincent Keter, a former champion, will race in the 1500m.
In the 4×400m relay men’s category, Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, Boniface Mweresa, Kelvin Sane, and Wiseman Were have been entered as Kenya’s representatives.
Bernard Anyanga Ouma, Alfred Kirwa Yego, Josephine Nyarunda, and Stephen Ndung’u will be the officials in charge of the delegation.
The team has been training ahead of the competition and is set to leave for Glasgow on February 28.
