Omanyala drops out of 2025 World Diamond League Finals

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has withdrawn from the 2025 World Diamond League Finals with only two days to the decisive races following an injury setback suffered.

Talking to his Facebook page on Monday, August 25, 2025, the sprinter confirmed that his withdrawal was due to a complication in the hip and gluteal area.

“Due to recent hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal pain experienced over the past few weeks, I regret to inform you that I will be unable to participate in the Diamond League Finals 2025,” his confirmation on Facebook read in part.

The Diamond League final is set to go down this Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in Weltklasse Zurich, Switzerland.

Focus on Japan

On a positive note, Omanyala, who has been a leading participant in this year’s Diamond League series, has expressed optimism that he would be able to take part in the upcoming World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

The athletics event will take place starting from September 13 to 21, 2025.

“I am optimistic about my recovery and anticipate being fully fit for Tokyo,” he added.

News of Omanyala’s injury setback comes as the African record holder in the 100 m races was ramping up preparations for the upcoming global Athletics Championships

Alongside Javelin star Julius Yego, Omanyala has been undergoing intensive training at a high-performance camp in Miramas, France, as part of Team Kenya’s concerted efforts to make an impressive showing on the world stage.

According to the Wanda Diamond League standings, the Kenyan is ranked third in the current Men’s 100 m standings behind the African pair Akani Simbine of South Africa and Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme.

The Kenyan is tied on points (20) with Eseme, with the two trailing Simbine by eight points.

On his part, yego will be hoping to build on his recent success of a gold medal in the Silesia Diamond League on Saturday, August 16, 2025, with an effort of 83.60 m.
