Okidi links Shabana’s win over APS Bomet to good workmanship at Gusii
By Joel Masibo, September 22, 2025Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi has linked the teams 4-2 win over league newbies APS Bomet at the Gussi Stadium on Sunday, September 21, 2025 to good workmanship at the club.
Okidi expressed gratitude to the Glamour Boys’ faithful and their unwavering support towards team as the new season kicked off on a winning note in their backyard. The tactician also thanked the team’s management, the technical bench and the playing unit after the win that took the side to the summit of the Kenyan Premier League table standings after round one fixtures.
”My gratitude goes to everyone who has been supporting Shabana in all forms, including prayers. Without the fans, we can’t. The win is because of teamwork from the fans, management, the technical bench and the playing unit,” Okidi said.
Michira shines in Bomet win
Winger Brian Michira, who has been one of the team’s standout players in recent months, gave the home side an early lead in the 2nd minute. APS Bomet tried to find a leveller but were undone once again by Michira, who converted from the spot in the 12th minute. APS Bomet’s own goal in the 19th minute extended Shabana’s lead in the first half.
APS responded with a goal in the 36th minute through Bob Cetric, punishing a lapse in Shabana’s defence. The contest opened up, with chances at both ends, but it was Shabana who went into the break holding a narrow lead, with Okidi linking the goal to lapses in concentration.
Shortly after the break, APS Bomet pulled another goal back in the 89th minute, but the Glamour Boys showed resilience as Derrick Otieno stepped up at the crucial moment and sealed the win with a fourth goal, leaving no doubt about the result.
”The first goal was a mistake from the team. When we were building up, the opponent was shutting down the spaces. The second goal, despite being conceded through a set piece, requires a video review because it appeared to be an offside goal. It is disappointing to the players,” he added.
Peter Okidi asked for competency in officiating despite bagging maximum points in the league opener.
