Former AFC Leopards striker Vincent Oburu has made a move to the Zambia Super League, joining Napsa Stars on a six-month loan deal from Zesco United.
This transfer sees Oburu bolstering Napsa Stars’ squad alongside Raphael Mala and Paul Banda.
Oburu’s experience
Napsa Stars confirmed the acquisition, highlighting Oburu’s previous experience with Kenyan clubs Wazito and AFC Leopards, as well as his international appearances for the Harambee Stars, notably winning the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
“Napsa Stars have successfully secured the services of Kenyan striker, Vincent Oburu, Congolese defender Raphael Mala Makubuli and Paul Banda in the pipeline of re-enforcing the team,” the club announced.
“Oburu joins the club on a six-month loan from Zesco United. Before his stint with Zesco United, he honed his skills and gained valuable experience with Kenyan clubs Wazito and AFC Leopards,” the club revealed.
“A noteworthy detail in Oburu’s football journey is his participation as a full Kenya international, as he was an integral part of the Harambee Stars team that clinched the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title,” the statement concluded.
Oburu’s exit
Oburu’s move comes amid the return of Jesse Were to Zesco United, where he rejoined after a stint with Kansanshi Dynamos.
Were, a former Harambee Stars forward and Golden Boot winner in the Kenyan Premier League, made a significant impact during his initial tenure with Zesco United, leaving as the club’s all-time leading scorer with over 100 goals across various competitions.
With Were’s return and Oburu’s loan departure, both players are set for new challenges in the Zambia Super League, contributing their talents to their respective clubs.
