National 7s Circuit: Prinsloo 7s pools announced

Kenya Cup Champions Kabras Sugar, currently leading the National 7s Circuit have been seeded top ahead of Prinsloo 7s, which will take place on August 5-6, 2023 at Nakuru Athletic Club.

Having showcased their performance in the opening two rounds held in Kisumu and Mombasa, Kabras Sugar secured their place in Pool A. They will be joined by Kisumu who impressed in Mombasa, Two-time Champions Homeboyz and Western Bulls.

Prinsloo 7s Pool B

Pool B will feature reigning circuit and Prinsloo champions Menengai Oilers who are determined to continue their run. They will be accompanied by Nondies, Nakuru (who have the home advantage) and the Catholic Monks.

In Pool C, fans can brace themselves for a showdown as KCB Rugby, a powerhouse in Kenyan rugby takes on Kenya Harlequin, MMUST and Blak Blad.

The final Pool has Strathmore Leos, Mwamba, Daystar Falcons, and Zetech Oaks.

In the scintillating 2022 National 7s Circuit, the Menengai Oilers emerged as the champions of the Prinsloo 7s after a thrilling final against Strathmore Leos, defeating them 12-7 in a closely contested match held in July.

The victory at the Prinsloo 7s marked a historic moment for the Menengai Oilers as they clinched their first-ever National 7s Circuit Cup title.

Double dose Prinsloo 7s

This year’s Prinsloo will concurrently with the first leg of the Women’s National 7s Circuit, providing fans with a delightful double dose of rugby excitement at the Nakuru Athletic Club (NAC).

Leading up to the Prinsloo 7s, two tournaments of the men’s National 7s Circuit have already taken place. The Dala 7s witnessed KCB Rugby emerging victorious in the opening leg, while Kabras Sugar showcased their prowess and claimed the title in the Driftwood 7s.

Kabras Sugar’s remarkable performances in Mombasa propelled them to the top of the National 7s Circuit standings. In a gripping final, they showcased their tenacity and skill, securing a hard-fought 10-7 victory against Menengai Oilers to earn the Driftwood 7s title.

The triumph, combined with their earlier impressive performance as runners-up in the Dala 7s, allowed Kabras to accumulate an impressive 22 points in Mombasa, adding to their existing total of 19 points.

With a grand total of 41 points, Kabras Sugar top the National 7s Circuit standings. They climbed above KCB Rugby, who possess 39 points.

KCB slipped to the second position after finishing third in the Driftwood 7s, making the race for the National 7s Circuit title even more captivating as the tournament progresses.
