Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has reinstated disbanded Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

This follows months after the committee was disbanded by former Sports CS Amina Mohammed and replaced with a caretaker committee in November 2021.

Namwamba who was speaking during a presser on Friday, November 4, 2022, stated that embattled FKF president Nick Mwendwa will stay out of office until his pending court case is determined.

Meanwhile, FKF vice president Doris Petra will serve as FKF's president.

"Mwendwa has signed an acknowledgement that he has a court case that needs to be resolved and as soon as that case is resolved, then normalcy will resume in the meantime, the team in the words of FIFA, led by Doris and Barry Otieno will roll out, "the CS stated.

Similarly, FKF Secretary-General Barry Otieno confirmed that the government through the sports ministry had given in to the demands of FIFA.

Otieno also noted that they would be communicating to FIFA to have the federation's suspension lifted.

"The government has fulfilled their conditions as set by the FIFA council, as part of the ongoing effort to allow Kenya to return to International football," he stated.

FKF disbanded

Former Sports CS Amina disbanded FKF over alleged graft.

Amina made the weighty decision after she received an 86-page report on the investigations into the massive fraud reported at the body, the major of which is the alleged embezzlement of the Ksh245 million meant for Harambee Stars’ preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.

The firebrand CS went ahead to install a caretaker committee to lead the government’s efforts to reform the body even as the world body declared that it was illegal to decree it in as much as it was to dissolve the federation.

Amina said the committee would run Kenyan football for the next six months with effect from November 7, 2021, ahead of the enactment of a new constitution which would then be handed to Fifa pending fresh federation elections.
