Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba yesterday said he was impressed by the pace of the contractors at the Talanta Sports City, less than a fortnight since President William Ruto commissioned the ground breaking ceremony of the facility that is set to be one of the venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Namwamba who made an impromtu visit to the facility to inspect the progress of the ongoing construction was optimistic the contractors will meet the timelines set to have the Sports City ready in good time for the continental showpiece.

The Talanta Sports City is a key part of Kenya’s infrastructure development program and is essential for the upcoming AFCON ‘27 football showpiece as the nation prepares to co-host the football extravaganza alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

The Minister was impressed by the rapid progress made, expressing confidence in completing the stadium by December 2025 ahead of the crucial CAF inspections.

“Looking at the pace of work going on here, no doubt that we are well within our timelines. I’m very confident that Talanta Sports City is well on track for our December 2025 target to test it ahead of AFCON 2027,” he told People Sports.

The project is advancing in stages to ensure each aspect is constructed flawlessly and on time. The CS highlighted that the government was committed to adhering to the planned construction, with regular high-level inspections to monitor progress.

He emphasised the importance of creating a world-class sports city that will serve as a source of pride for Kenya and the region.

“This aligns with the flagship #TalantaHela program, which aims to nurture sports talent, promote healthy lifestyles, and create a center for sporting events where dreams come true and champions are born,” said Namwamba.

The advancements at Talanta Sports City promises an exciting future and with continuous government support and dedication, the project is poised for success. It underscores the commitment to enhancing sports facilities, and is in perfect sync with the Ministry’s Sports Infrastructure masterplan.
