Nairobi to launch Jericho Court, which will host league matches
Nairobi City County is set to launch the Jericho basketball court on April 15.
This was announced by Chief Officer Oscar Igaida during a site visit yesterday where he said: “The facilities will be ready for unveil next week starting with Jericho and California Stadium. The basketball court is currently 80 per cent complete. This venue will provide a platform for the area youth to nurture their talent and provide an avenue to keep them busy and away from crime, drugs and unwanted pregnancies.”
The County Government has partnered with Hennessy and Kenya Association of Manufacturers who will identify partners that will sponsor four (4) basketball teams and ensure players are absorbed into the respective companies; nurtured and trained and right placed in various departments.
Through our development partners, our youth will be linked with potential employers and professional and semi-professional teams both locally, regionally and internationally.”
Igaida also inspected ongoing works at the Jericho and California estates facilities.
Igaida said: “The sector has partnered with sports development partners in securing and developing the existing sports grounds as part of implementing Governor Sakaja Johnsons’ manifesto, which will ensure Nairobi City County youths are given opportunities to thrive and nurture their respective talents. When we give our youth space to exercise their talent, it gives them an opportunity to earn a leaving and place food on the table and support their families through their talents to support.”
