The 20th edition of the Nairobi Marathon is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 29, 2023, and it is expected to attract approximately 25,000 participants.

With the World Athletics accredited event having drawn at least 270,000 participants over the past 19 years, organizers are promising to pull all stops in association with the County Government of Nairobi and Athletics Kenya to make this globally acclaimed Championship a success.

Nairobi Marathon organizers’ goal

The organizers are also keen through the project to see at least 25,00 trees planted in line with the Government’s agenda of planting one billion trees in the next 10 years.

Nairobi County Deputy Governor James Muchiri who was Chief Guest during the launch promised that the County would be of valuable assistance when the Marathon takes place so that the City can get the requisite eye-balls and visibility.

“It is an honour to host the prestigious Nairobi Marathon in our vibrant city. This event can only get better because it uplifts the profile of our City.

“We want to be associated with a premium event that is for a worthy cause that targets community empowerment. As such, the County Government of Nairobi will be a key partner but also a benefactor since the greening project of planting 25,00 trees will be for our future good as a City.

“Indeed this marathon serves as a testament to Kenya’s status as a global hub for sports and showcases our commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle amongst our citizens,”he stated.

On his part AK president Jackson Tuwei has lauded the organizers for the improvements over the past two decades and managing to keep the event alive and sustained.

“For the past 19 years, this event has grown by leaps and bounds. I want to thank the sponsors for their commitment to make this event work. We believe even in this year’s edition, we expect bigger and better things since this event is huge in the calendar of Athletics Kenya and second to none.

“We are extremely proud to partner with this event because over the years it has created world beaters and also launched some great talents. So far we are satisfied with the preparations and so we hope for improved numbers,” he said.
