Kenya once again reaffirmed its status as the world’s premier long-distance running powerhouse after a stunning display at the 2025 Valencia Marathon, where the nation claimed three medals.

Speaking on the stellar display in Valencia, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has praised the athletes for elevating Kenya’s flag on one of the world’s fastest and most competitive marathon stages.

”A stellar performance at the 2025 Valencia Marathon as Kenya takes home three medals. Congratulations to John Korir for his spectacular victory at the Valencia Men’s Marathon, clocking 2:02:24 and setting a new world record, becoming the 8th fastest man in marathon history,” Mvurya took to X on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Though not a new world record, Korir’s time places him among the eight fastest marathoners in history, solidifying his reputation in a discipline dominated by extraordinary East African talent. His masterful execution on Valencia’s ultra-fast course ensured Kenya’s presence at the very top of the global leaderboard.

Jepkosgei dominates

The women’s race provided even more spectacle as Joyciline Jepkosgei produced a world-class, career-defining performance. Winning in 2:14:00. She set a new Valencia course record, the world-leading women’s marathon time for 2025 and one of the fastest marathon times ever recorded by a woman.
