Kenya Morans in group B for 2024 Africa Men’s 7s
The pools for the second leg of the 2024 Africa Men’s 7s have been confirmed ahead of the final tournament, set for Labourdonnais Stadium in Port-Louis on July 6 and 7.
First-leg champions Uganda have been seeded top in Pool A, alongside Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia.
Morans in Pool B
Kenya will renew their rivalry against Madagascar in Pool B for the second leg of the tournament, where they will be joined by Zambia and Algeria. Madagascar previously edged out the Morans 7-5 in the pool stage of the first leg before reaching the finals, where they lost to Uganda.
Group C will feature hosts Mauritius, Nigeria, and semifinalists South Africa, who will once again face Zimbabwe, the fourth team in the pool.
In the first leg, Uganda 7s were crowned champions after winning all six of their matches during the two-day event at Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius.
Tolbert Onyango’s side clinched a 31-12 victory over Madagascar in the final, strengthening their position to reclaim the title they won in 2022. With this win, Uganda leads the Africa Men's 7s standings with 20 points, positioning them well for qualification in the 2025 World Challenger Series.
Madagascar, the surprise package of the weekend, finished second with 18 points, only falling to Uganda in the final after maintaining a five-match undefeated streak. This included a 7-5 victory over Kenya.
South Africa secured third place with 16 points following a 35-7 win over Burkina Faso in the third-place playoff, with Burkina Faso earning 14 points for their fourth-place finish. Zimbabwe collected 12 points with a 28-19 victory over Kenya Morans, who finished in sixth place with 10 points.
Ivory Coast (8 points), Mauritius (6 points), Zambia (4 points), Nigeria (3 points), Tunisia (2 points), and Algeria (1 point) complete the standings after round one action.
The teams will now shift their focus to the second leg next weekend, where the overall winner over the two tournaments will qualify for the 2025 World Challenger Series.
