Michael Kibwage: New Gor Mahia signing delighted despite losing debut to Simba
By Kenneth Mwenda, September 11, 2025Michael Kibwage has expressed his delight after making his first appearance for Gor Mahia during their 2-0 defeat to Simba SC in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, August 10, 2025.
The Kenyan international defender joined Gor Mahia from Tusker FC on a two-year deal in August 2025. He was part of the 25-man squad that travelled to Tanzania for the high-profile friendly, which formed part of Simba’s annual Simba Day celebrations at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
“Delighted to have made my debut for @OfficialGMFC in Tanzania last night. Plenty to pick from despite our defeat. Looking forward to building on from here,” Kibwage shared his thoughts on his X account, writing on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The match offered Gor Mahia a valuable test against one of East Africa’s strongest clubs. Simba took an early lead in the eighth minute through Mohammed Hamza, who headed in a well-placed free kick. Gor created chances of their own, with Christopher Ochieng and Samuel Kapen going close, while Ghanaian striker Ebenezer Adukwa saw an effort fly narrowly over.
Despite periods of positive play, Gor Mahia’s defence came under sustained pressure from Simba’s attackers. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 55th minute when Ugandan striker Steven Dese Mukwala pounced on a defensive lapse to score their second goal.
Akonnor focuses on integration
Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor had described the fixture as an important pre-season test for his side, noting that it would help integrate the club’s new signings. Alongside Kibwage, the travelling contingent included Lewis Bandi, Fidel Origa, and Ghanaian duo Ebenezer Adukwa and George Amonoo.

Kibwage, who featured for Kenya’s CHAN team in August, slotted into the defence alongside Sylvester Owino and Paul Ochuoga.
The 27-year-old is expected to bring leadership and stability at the back as Gor Mahia prepare for the new FKF Premier League season and continental assignments.
