Mathare United hand Mara Sugar first loss in NSL

Mathare United secured a 2-0 victory over Mara Sugar in a game that marked an end to Mara Sugar's previously unbeaten run in the FKF National Super League's sixth-round match held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Utalii grounds.

The first half witnessed both teams vying for an early lead, but their efforts failed to produce any goals, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at halftime.

However, the second half brought the game to life. In the 54th minute, Pascal Ogweno scored the first goal for Mathare United with a powerful header.

Approaching stoppage time, Mara Sugar's defence committed a foul on Cliff Kasuti inside the penalty area, awarding Mathare United a penalty.

Tony Odhiambo stepped up and confidently put the ball in the net, securing the second goal for Mathare in the 87th minute. This sealed the final score at 2-0 in favour of Mathare United.

In another match, Migori Youth and Nairobi United played to a 1-1 draw at Homabay Stadium. Nairobi United took an early lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Rodgers Angal.

However, Migori Youth responded in the second half as Elly Owande found the net in the 54th minute, levelling the score. Despite both teams' efforts, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sunday, October 22, 2023, will feature five more matches. Vihiga Bullets will host Coastal Heroes at Mumias Sports Complex with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff while Silibwet and Dimba Patriots will clash at Silibwet Green Stadium, also with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

Kibera Black Stars will face Rainbow at Vapor Grounds at 3:00 p.m. while MCF and Kisumu Allstars will battle at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, with the match scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

SS Assad will take on Mulembe United FC at Ukunda Showground in Ukunda, starting at 3:00 p.m.
