The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-Kenya) have announced the Malkia Strikers provisional squad for the World Challenger Cup in France and the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The team, consisting of 16 talented players, is gearing up for a series of rigorous training sessions and crucial international competitions in their quest for glory.

Malkia Strikers offensive power

The squad includes accomplished setters such as Emmaculate Nekesa, Rose Magoi, Veronica Kilabat, and Esther Mutinda. The team’s offensive firepower is bolstered by outstanding opposite players Sharon Chumba, Loice Simiyu, and Pamela Adhiambo.

The left attackers, including Moim Mercy, Veronica Adhiambo, Juliana Namutira, Leonida Kasaya, Jemimah Siango, and Yvonne Wavinya, bring their exceptional skills to the table.

The defensive prowess is in the capable hands of liberos Delphine Misoki and Agripina Kundu. The middle blockers, comprising Edith Wisah, Belinda Barasa, Lorine Chebet, Gladys Ekaru, and Trizah Atuka, ensure a solid defense at the net.

The Malkia Strikers are scheduled to kick off their non-residential local training on June 20, 2023, at the iconic Nyayo National Stadium.

This preparatory phase will set the stage for their intensive one-month training camp in Morocco, aimed at fine-tuning their skills and strategies.

The ultimate objective is to excel in the highly anticipated FIVB Challenger Cup, set to take place in France from July 27-30.

By securing points in the FIVB ranking during this tournament, the Malkia Strikers aim to strengthen their position on the international stage.

Following their participation in the FIVB Challenger Cup, the team will embark on a journey to Cameroon for the prestigious 2023 Africa Nations Cup.

This highly competitive event, scheduled from August 6-16, will witness the Malkia Strikers’ determined efforts to reclaim the title they narrowly lost to Cameroon in 2019.

Not only will their performance in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations be a testament to their prowess, but it will also play a vital role in their qualification bid for the 2024 Paris Olympics. With only one Olympic qualification slot available for Africa, every point and victory will be crucial for the Malkia Strikers’ aspirations.

Present at the official presentation of the squad were notable figures such as Francis Mutuku, the Secretary General of NOC-Kenya, CBD Nyaberi, Acting KVF President, Kenneth Tonui, KVF Treasurer, Edward Kisaka, Coach Japheth Munala, Coach Paul Bitok, Team Physio Sarah Karongo, and members of the press.
