Eugene Asike: Tusker’s experienced defender reveals love for Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos

Standing at six feet tall in the middle of the Tusker defence is hugely dependable and immensely experienced Eugene Asike.

A no nonsense defender who is also comfortable with the ball on his feet, Asike can do it all. Helping progress the ball from the back with his accurate passing and vison range, he has become a household name among the brewers faithful.

The center back who made a move to Swedish third tier club IF Karlstard in 2022 rejoined Tusker for the 2023/24 FKFPL season. He has also turned out for KCB and Sofapaka in the local league, earning a call up to the national team in 2012 where he has three caps to his name.

Who is Eugene Asike?

The unassuming defender boasts of a career that spans over a decade, but do you know who Asike is? He recently shared little known facts about himself.

Name and age: Eugene Ambuchi Asike. 30 years old.

Year joined Tusker: 2015.

Position: Central defender and also I can play as a right back.

What inspired him to become a football player, and when he started playing: In a recent interview, Asike revealed that he wasn’t inspired by anything or anyone, he just happened to love the game from an early age of 6 years when he started playing football.

Hobbies: Asike loves listening to live band music, eating out with friends and sleeping.

Football player(s) he looks up to, and why: Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva because of their style of play and leadership skills.

How he handles pressure or criticism, both on and off the pitch: Accepting positive criticism and working on it and blocking out negative criticism.

Asike’s playing style: Aggressive off the ball and cool calm and composed on the ball.

Personal and team goals for the current season: Asike wants to play as many games and be consistent with his performance. As a team, Asike’s goal is to finish the season in the best position possible.

Most memorable moment or game as a football player for Tusker FC: He was awarded the best defender of the season in 2021 and winning the double with Tusker in 2016. Winning the double will go down in history books at Tusker cause it had never been done before.

Greatest strengths as a football player: He is intelligent, quick, a good reader of the game, leader, comfortable on the ball and aggressive.
