AFC Leopards SC emerged 1-0 winners over Nzoia Sugar in a friendly match organised as a curtain-raiser for the team awards gala held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Masinde Muliro Stadium.

In a clash that saw Ingwe make wholesale changes to the team in both halves, Ronald Sichenje notched the decisive goal in the first half as Ingwe edged past the NSL rivals.

Sichenje, who was among the first batch of changes after the half-hour mark, turned home from close range from an Ovella Ochieng cross to open the scoring.

Ingwe almost doubled its advantage minutes after the break when Vincent Mahiga hit the upright from a well-taken free kick.

Earlier in another clash, Musingu High School succumbed to a lone-goal defeat to Bungoma’s Bukembe Boys.

The following comes as proceedings now shift to the actual award ceremony starting at 6:00 pm at the Wanangali Sports Lounge.

According to the Ingwe, the upcoming gala, which will run late into the night, has been organised to appreciate the effort put in by AFC Leopards players, staff, and fans while pushing for the stability of the team both on and off the pitch.

Speaking ahead of the event, newly elected chair Boniface Ambani hailed the hosting of the event as a special occurrence for the people associated with the massively followed team.

”This is the only time you have to appreciate a player; it is an important event amid preparations for the upcoming season. The Gala is for everyone; it is not only for the players, but also the fans will be appreciated. The best branch and the best coach will also be appreciated in the gala so much is going to happen,” he said.

Ambani further reserved praises for the club’s loyalists for their unwavering support of the club.

“AFC Leopards has the most loyal supporters in Kenyan football. They will always stand with the team whether they lose, win, or draw. For us in the office, we are working on winning trophies because the best gift you can give a fan is a title,”he added.
