Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier yesterday called for order in the management of football affairs with a challenge to the next administration chiefs to steer the game to prosperity.
The city lawyer faulted the decision to extend the mandate of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Transition Committee by a further two months, arguing that this was not in the best interest of football in the Country.
“We want to see stakeholders take charge of football in this country and not the circus we are currently witnessing. It would be good to have a new office through elections because for us, the extension of the Transition Committee’s term is not helpful and in fact not a solution to our problems,” said Rachier on the sidelines of a new sponsorship deal worth Sh 76.5 million by gaming firm BetAfriq at Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi yesterday.
Rachier also stated that he would be looking forward to seeing K’Ogalo take part in the newly introduced CAF Super Cup.
“We have had discussions with the CAF leadership and FIFA as well and we feel this project can fit us as Gor Mahia. It is a very welcome move and we see ourselves benefiting. We will discuss and come up with a plan so for starters it is all about reclaiming our place in the football competition in Kenya,” he said.
The veteran administrator also revealed that at least 21 applicants had applied for the vacant coaching position at the club following the departure of German tactician Andreas Spear last week and told reporters that by next month there will be an ideal replacement.
“We are shopping and soon we will get the best coach for the club. We have collectively received 21 applications including some through WhatsApp that we are yet to go through. As everyone is aware, the club fans are often anxious so we will recruit only the best for us. We are narrowing down on some names but all I can say is that since our supporters expect a foreigner,we maybe looking at the prospects of a target from the United Kingdom,” added Rachier.
Meanwhile BetAfriq General Manager Craig Oyugi talked of a great catch in Gor Mahia and noted that it was an easy decision for the firm to sponsor the record league champions.
“For us, we must count ourselves lucky that we have a partnership with Gor Mahia. Of course they will help us get visibility and that is why we are honored to be part of this great club which has a rich history,” he said.
Oyugi added: “In the past, a lot of sponsors of the team have left and made the club suffer but we are here to stay and it is our undertaking therefore to see our length through. Every year we will be increasing the token by 20 per cent so we see this arrangement as a perfect match for both parties.”
