Kenya’s Thunder ready to dethrone Petro of Angola in continental baskeball battle

Kenya’s representatives in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers, Premier League club Nairobi City Thunder, are ready to wrench the BAL title from Africa’s defending champions, Angola’s Petro de Luanda, come next month.
Petro de Luanda recently made history by becoming the first continental team to register a win at the recently concluded Fiba Intercontinental Cup in Singapore.
Angola’s Petro de Luanda, the BAL champions of Africa, made history by becoming the first African team to win a game in the 34th edition of the Fiba Intercontinental Cup.
They rallied from a 13-point deficit to defeat Argentina’s Quimsa Club, the Basketball Confederation League (BCL) Americas champions, 70-64. The global clubs competition ended in Singapore at the weekend, with Petro de Luanda finishing in fifth place overall.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s BAL representatives, Thunder’s assistant team manager Bernet Ojay, in an interview with People Sport, conveyed that the team—being the first KBF professional club in the country—overcame the league dominance of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) to clinch KBF’s final Premier League play-offs in a best-of-five series.
