Kenya Netball Federation (KNF) chairperson Millicent Kabutha has been elected the Secretary General ( SG) of Africa Netball and will serve for a period of four years.

Speaking on Monday evening after the elections that were conducted during the continental netball governing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Avani Hotel in Botswana’s Capital City Gaborone, Kabutha reiterated that Kenya is now set to benefit from the position in developing the sport in the country.

“It has been a great moment and we thank God for it because such steps mean that Kenya will now have a say in Africa and that means that our ideas to develop netball structures from the grass-roots level all over the country will now see the light of the day,” said Kabutha adding that talks are currently going on with the Kenyan government for the purposes of having the right indoor sporting infrastructures across the country since netball is an indoor sports.

These new developments come in the wake of what Netball Kenya will term as a great year, having successfully hosted the East Africa Club Netball Championships in Nairobi back in May this year, a tournament that also saw Kenya’s Kabutha taking over the East Africa region’s presidency, succeeding Uganda’s Hon Sarah Babirye Kito.

“Netball in Kenya is now set for new changes that will start with us leaders. This continental seat is important because Kenya has been missing out in most tournaments hence affecting our rankings something that is now set to change,” quipped Millicent Busolo from Gaborone, the SG of KNF who also attended the Africa’s AGM.

The Continental AGM saw 19 countries in attendance, with 17 of them voting for Kabutha to take over the reins of SG against two.

South Africa’s Cecilia Mulokwena retained her seat as chairperson as well as Botswana’s Malebo Ratladia as the Vice President Marketing and Martha Lungu from Zambia who will continue as Africa’s Treasurer.
