Kenya volleyball federation heavyweights pushed to their limits

The second leg of 2021/2022 Kenya Volleyball Federation KVF men’s national league continued at the weekend with league heavyweights pushed to the very limit before squeezing through on hard-fought victories.
Kenya Ports Authority men’s team who finished third last season were forced to dig deep to pull off a gutsy 3-1 victory against league debutants Prisons Nyanza at Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium.
Prisons Nyanza surprised the big boys from Mombasa by fighting hard to win the first set 25-22 but experienced KPA held their cool to level matters 1-1 after rebounding well to win the second set 25-16 and never looked back as they went on a rampage in the remaining two sets, winning both sets in a similar scoreline of 25-17.
Reigning national men’s champions General Service Unit (GSU) and last season’s runners-up Kenya Prisons did not have it easy either as they were put to task to prove their credentials.
GSU needed a 75-55 scoreline to fend off Prisons Mombasa in 3-0 straight sets of 25-18, 25-23, 25-14, and in their second match on Sunday, they had to dig deep to stop KDF 3-1 in sets of 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, and 25-20, while Prisons Kenya on their side needed to work hard to beat Trail Blazers 3-0 in straight sets of 25-19, 25-18, 25-20.
In other matches, Kenya Army outsmarted AP Kenya in a 3-2 five-set thriller of 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11, to bounce back to winning ways after the first leg loss, Prisons Nairobi imprisoned fellow warders, Prisons Western, in 3-0 straight sets of 25-21, 25-17, 26-24 as Trail Blazers handed relentless Equity Bank a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 15-25, 26-24, 16-14) defeat with KDF working hard to stop KFS 3-1 (25-13, 13-25, 25-17, 25-22) and Prison Rift Valley roaring to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) win over Vihiga County.
