Kenya 7s co-captains have identified key changes necessary for Kenya to perform well in the World 7s Series next season.

Captains Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi shared their insights in an interview with SportOn, joined by teammates George Ooro and Patrick Odongo.

Onyala emphasized the importance of proper remuneration for the team to remain competitive on the international stage. He also highlighted the crucial need for adequate training facilities ahead of the World 7s Series.

"Proper remuneration is essential to ensure players are focused and motivated to improve every day. We need to partner with systems that offer better facilities to enhance our training, allowing us to prepare thoroughly at home instead of encountering these facilities just a month before the competition," Onyala commented.

Co-captain and Mwamba fly-half Tony Omondi stressed the significance of thorough preparation for the team to compete effectively and maintain their series core status. He pointed out key areas of focus, saying, "We need to bulk up more and work twice, if not three times harder than we did in the challenger series."

Kenya will participate in the 2024/25 World 7s Series after gaining promotion in Madrid, Omondi noting the challenge posed by the twelve-team tournament said that it allows no room for mistakes compared to the Challenger Series.

Onyala also highlighted the opportunities that promotion to the World 7s Series will bring for the team and Kenyan rugby as a whole. He mentioned that many brands will now be interested in partnering with the team, which will benefit the players and the local rugby scene.

Reflecting on the previous series, where the team relied on public contributions to honor their fixtures, Onyala added, "Returning to the series opens up many opportunities for the team, both internationally and locally. Many brands will want to be associated with Kenya 7s, creating numerous openings for players in the local scene."
