KCB Football Club have officially announced the appointment of Bernard Mwalala as their new Head Coach.

Mwalala takes over the reins from Zedekiah Zico Otieno, who recently parted ways with the Nairobi-based club after the expiration of his four-year contract.

KCB warm welcome

The arrival of Mwalala has been warmly welcomed by KCB, who described him as a "super coach."

"Very pleased to announce that we have officially secured the services of super coach Bernard Mwalala as the club's new head coach. Welcome to the Lion's Den," KCB announced.

In his playing days, Mwalala showcased his skills in various leagues across Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Malaysia, and Oman.

Following his retirement, he transitioned into coaching and gained experience working with Tanzanian lower-tier sides, including Muweza FC and Magomeni, as an assistant coach.

He then moved on to Coastal Union F.C., where he continued to develop his coaching abilities.

Mwalala's breakthrough as a head coach came when he guided Nzoia Sugar to earn a promotion to the top tier of Kenyan football.

He subsequently led the team in the opening seasons before joining Bandari F.C., a coastal-based side. He later left Bandari and joined Kakamega Homeboyz where he orchestrated a strong title challenge, with the team finishing in second place on the log, just behind Gor Mahia.

However, his tenure at Homeboyz was cut short when he and his technical bench were dismissed due to disciplinary issues, according to the club's chairman and owner, Cleophas Shimanyula.

After leaving Kakamega Homeboyz, Mwalala briefly took charge of Ulinzi Stars last season. Despite facing speculation surrounding his position, he managed to guide the team to a ninth-place finish, accumulating 12 wins, 13 draws, and nine losses.

Now, as he embarks on his new role at KCB Football Club, Mwalala is set to face his former team, Kakamega Homeboyz, in his first match in charge. It will undoubtedly be an intriguing encounter, as Mwalala aims to make a strong impression and guide KCB to further success.
