Kabeberi 7s: Ambitious KCB, Kabras Sugar pick up morale-boosting opening wins

By , September 9, 2023

Kabras and KCB have posted impressive wins in their Kabeberi 7s openers on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the RFUEA Ground.

KCB are the tournament defending champions, while Kabras Sugar are the circuit leaders, and both have been tipped to win the overall title, so the impressive starts are a huge boost in their quests.

After picking up shocking results in the Tisap 7s, Nondies have also posted a good start alongside Tessen Warriors, outgoing champions Menengai Oilers, and hosts Mwamba.

Pool leaders

Tessen Warriors managed a 26-0 win over Blak Blad, which means they lead their pool with three points and a superior differential in points. Kenya Harlequin faltered after going down to Nondies in a 12-7 encounter.

The victory means that the Tisap 7s champions have three points with a five-point differential, and Harlequins, who have lost their three openers this season, have a point just like Blak Blad.

Impala are leading their respective pool as they enjoyed a walkover against Kisumu RFC, who did not show up for Kabeberi 7s. Nakuru RFC and Strathmore Leons have two points each, one below the leading Gazelles. Nakuru and Leons drew in their respective opening games.

Kabras Sugar are on top of Pool C with three points and a point differential of 15 after beating Daystar Falcons 22/7.

Mwamba, the tournament’s hosts, registered a 17-7 win over MMUST, and that means the Varsity charges have a point just like Daystar.

Moi Arsonists were no match for title-chasing KCB, as they were beaten 50-0, the biggest scoreline so far at the two-day competition. The win means the Bankers have three points in their account and lead their pool.

Menengai Oilers, who also faltered at the Tisap 7s battle, registered a 21-5 victory over Catholic Monks, and that means the victors and the 2022 champions are second in their pool.
