Kanbis ends Obuya Academy’s winning charge as Cutchi Leva dismiss favourites Sir Ali

NAIROBI: Obuya Academy’s five match winning streak was rudely cut by former Champions Kanbis Sports Club after the latter won by five wickets in the ongoing NPCA 50-Over Championships at Lenana School.

Kennedy Obuya, who went in to bat first in the opening innings, set a target score of 197 all out on the board. Obuya (93 runs off 125 balls) came in at number five in the batting order to emerge top scorer for his team in their allotted overs with his personal contribution including an incredible 11 boundaries.

Obuya was confident and clearly rolled up the years while on the crease. Unfortunately, he was bowled out by Pushpak Kerai as late as the 42nd over runs away from a century mark. His younger kin and opening batsman in the match Collins Obuya (41 runs off 63 balls) had set up pace but his opening partner Steve Odhiambo was not as lucky as he left for a golden duck courtesy of the top pace of Nelson Odhiambo’s pace. On resumption, Kanbis was steady on the wheel and had Man of the Match Pushpak Kerai (3 wickets in 36 runs) and (113 runs off 84 balls) showing his mettle.

His batting numbers included 16 boundaries and four-sixes in an inning that saw Kanbis go past the target and post 202 on the board for the loss of five wickets.
