Kabras share spoils with MMUST; KCB, Nondies romp into Kabeberi quarters

Kabras Rugby faced a tough challenge in their second match at the Kabeberi 7s, drawing 17-17 against MMUST, which has increased the pressure on them as they prepare to face Mwamba.

The match started with MMUST taking the lead as their captain, Veron Kaburu, scored the opening try.

Kabras first half fightback

Kabras fought back, with Jeanson Misoga providing an offload to Humphrey Asirikwa, whose try was successfully converted, giving them a 7-5 lead.

Speedster Tyson Juma ensured that MMUST went into halftime with the lead. Despite being tackled, Juma managed to score a center-post try. However, the conversion attempt was off-target, resulting in a 10-7 lead for MMUST.

In the second half, Washington Ombima extended MMUST’s lead with a try, although the conversion was missed, making it 17-7.

With time running out, Hillary Salano made a crucial play for Kabras, scoring a try on the right wing and giving them hope of a comeback with just a minute to play.

Kabras late tries

Felix Ayange’s charges managed to grab a third try after Duncan Abuyeka sliced through MMUST’s defense and scored near the posts, tying the scores.

However, Dan Angwech’s conversion attempt missed the target, resulting in Kabras dropping points in the match.

In other matches, Mwamba staged a late comeback to beat Daystar Falcons 19-12, with late tries from Brian Mutugi. Mwamba now leads the pool with six points, followed by Kabras RFC with five points after their draw. MMUST and Daystar have three and two points, respectively.

KCB reach Kabeberi Quarters

Defending champions KCB Rugby, Menengai Oilers, and Nondies have already qualified for the cup quarters at RFUEA Grounds.

KCB had a strong performance against Catholic Monks, winning 35-7. KCB took an early lead when Elphas Adunga broke through and set up Eugene Omondi for a converted try. Monks responded with a beautiful center-post try by Eric Ogutu after a conversion, leveling the score at 7-7.

KCB quickly reclaimed the lead as Edwin Omondi scored a center-post try, making it 14-7. In the second half, KCB extended their lead through Michael Wamalwa, bringing the score to 21-7. Monks faced challenges, receiving two consecutive yellow cards and playing with only five players, as Austin Sikutwa and Lionel Ajelity scored for KCB.

Menengai Oilers had a successful match against Moi Arsonists, scoring tries through Steve Arunga, Elkeans Musonye, and Harold Anduvate for an early lead. They continued to add more points in the second half, winning 38-7. With this victory, KCB and Oilers secured their places in the quarters.

Nondies extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches with a 26-10 victory over Tessen Warriors, placing them at the top of their pool with six points. Tessen Warriors and Kenya Harlequin both have four points, with Harlequin bouncing back with a 31-5 win over Blad to keep their quarterfinal hopes alive.

In Pool B, Strathmore Leos bounced back with a 33-5 win over Impala, while Nakuru RFC received a walkover against Kisumu RFC.

As it stands, Strathmore Leos have eight points, Nakuru RFC has five points, and Impala has four points ahead of their final match.
