Jonah Ayunga demands a more clinical Stars after loss to Equatorial Guinea
By Luke Oluoch, November 15, 2025Harambee Stars attacker Jonah Ayunga has his frustration with the team’s attacking display after Kenya’s 1-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea on Friday, November 14, 2025, in Turkey.
Speaking on Saturday, November 15, 2025, after the clash, the Scotland-based attacker stated that the team will need to be more clinical, having lost numerous chances to tie the game played in Antalya, Turkey.
Benni McCarty’s charges slumped to the lone goal courtesy of Josete Miranda’s strike from the spot-kick as the game approached the breather.
“We feel frustrated with the results. We have not seen the penalty incident; it looked fifty-fifty. We played well, other than conceding from the penalty, which was their only real chance. They had a few shots, but overall we managed to limit them.”
“We need to make sure we take our chances. Our finishing was not right. We had a good game plan and made good chances and transitioned well when we got the ball. It is down to us as the midfielders and attackers to take our chances,” he added.

The clash against Equatorial Guinea was the first of the back-to-back friendlies during this month’s FIFA window as Benni McCarthy’s charges now embark on preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations to be held on home soil.
The team was initially planned to play matches against Madagascar and Comoros.
Kenya now shifts focus to their next test against Senegal in the second friendly clash on Tuesday, November 18, at the Mardan Stadium.
The tie will kick off at 6:00 pm.
The friendly matches will provide the Stars with a vital opportunity to test their strength against high-ranking opponents, fine-tune tactical approaches, and build cohesion ahead of upcoming competitive engagements.
After successfully hosting the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), alongside Uganda and Tanzania, Kenya will again host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside her two neighbours; hence, the need to build a strong team that will be able to compete effectively with the continent’s big boys on home soil.
