AFC Leopards winger Clifton Miheso has been selected to replace Eric Johanna in the Harambee Stars squad traveling to Malawi for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Miheso was drafted into the squad after Johanna failed to report to camp just before the team's departure for Malawi, according to team officials. The team was given a short break on Friday and was expected to return to camp on Saturday.

This incident marks the second time Johanna has made headlines for the wrong reasons, the first being his dismissal from the team after an altercation with teammate Aboud Omar ahead of the Four Nations Tournament in Malawi, where Harambee Stars emerged as champions.

Johanna has yet to make an official statement regarding his absence, while speculation about his omission continues to grow.

Harambee Stars in Malawi

Harambee Stars have already set up camp in Malawi ahead of their qualifying matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast. The team expressed their excitement on social media:

"Hello Malawi! The Harambee Stars have landed! We're thrilled to call Malawi our home for the upcoming qualifiers. Ready to face Burundi and Ivory Coast here in Malawi. Thank you for the warm welcome and support!"

There are injury concerns for the team, as Joseph Okumu and Eric Ouma are doubtful for the qualifiers in Malawi due to minor injuries. However, Ouma is expected to join the team in Malawi.

Kenya is currently third out of six in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with three points from their opening two matches against Gabon and Seychelles. The 48-team World Cup will be held across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Only the top team in the group, which includes Ivory Coast, Gabon, Burundi, Gambia, Seychelles, and Kenya, will get automatic World Cup qualification.
