I’ll reward you big if you beat Tusker to help Gor win league, Owalo courts Posta
By Dennis Mabuka, June 20, 2023FKF Premier League is set for a dramatic finish after Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo yesterday promised Posta Rangers a cash reward if they beat title-chasing Tusker in their league fixture at Ruaraka grounds tomorrow.
Owalo, who is in charge of the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, met with Rangers’ players and officials at his office where he hosted them for lunch, gave them Sh 200,000 and urged them to beat the Brewers. His gesture comes as Gor Mahia and Tusker are embroiled in a neck-to-neck race for the league title with two matches remaining to end the season. While second-placed Tusker will be taking on Rangers on Wednesday, leaders K’Ogalo will come up against Kakamega Homeboyz.
“I have this afternoon [Monday] hosted Posta Rangers to lunch. The Rangers are a football club under the wings of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy,” Owalo wrote on his social media pages, adding: “I wish the team well in their remaining two KPL matches, starting with the game against Tusker this Wednesday,”
A source, who attended the meeting confirmed to People Daily Sports that Owalo had promised Rangers more money if they manage to beat Tusker in favour of Gor Mahia.
“He has scheduled another date with the players and officials if they do the honour of beating Tusker, he really wants to see Gor Mahia crowned and he promised them a good amount of money if they emerge victors on Wednesday,” said the source, who sought anonymity. A win for Rangers against Tusker and victory for Gor Mahia against Homeboyz will mean, K’Ogalo will just need a point from their final game of the season to be crowned champions.
So far, Gor Mahia are leading the 18-team table with 67 points, two more than Tusker, while Nzoia are third with 63 points.
On the final day, Tusker will come up against relegated Vihiga Bullets while Gor Mahia will confront Nairobi City Stars, both matches on June 24.
