Harambee Stars players got their CAF Champions League campaign off to a winning start with Power Dynamos and Young Africans emerging victorious in their respective ties against ASEC Mimosas and Herewa on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

In Zambia, a first-half goal from Innocent Kashita proved sufficient for the Aba Yellow to edge Asec 1-0 in Ndola.

The club, which features the Kenyan pair of Moses Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro, now shifts focus to the return leg in the Ivory Coast.

Speaking after the match, Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa stated that they will be keen to complete the job in the return leg in enemy territory.

“We are going into that second half, not under pressure. They will be the ones under pressure since we have won. We have to go there and get a good result that will make us qualify for the second round,” Mutapa said.

Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro were all part of the matchday squad, with the former starting the clash after his heroic brace in a past league clash.

Osoro entered the fray as a second-half substitute.

In Angola, Duke Abuya was among the starters for Young Africans, as the Jangwani side whacked Wiliete SC 3-0 in the first-leg clash of the CAF Champions League tie.

Rupia on the win

Former AFC Leopards striker Elvis Rupia was also on the winning side as Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars edged hosts Rayon Sports 1-0 on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

Marouf Tchakei’s first-half strike secured the win for the reigning 2025 CECAFA Kagame Club Championship.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Bajaber was not in the matchday squad of his new team, Simba SC, who edged Gaborone United 1-0 to claim a crucial first-leg advantage in another CAF Champions League tie in Botswana.

Elias Mpanzu’s solo strike did the job for the team coached by South African trainer Fadlu Davids.

Back at home, the Kenyan reigning league champions Police FC also coasted to a 3-1 win over Mogadishu CC in the CAF Champions League tie held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Police triumphs

Goals from Eric Zakayo, Edward Omondi, and David Simiyu wrapped up a dream return to continental football for Etienne Ndajiragijye’s team.

In Uganda, Nicholas Muyoti’s Nairobi United’s charges battled to an enthralling 2-2 draw against hosts NEC in the first-leg clash played in the landlocked nation.

Enock Machaka and Shami Kibwana scored for the reigning FKF Shield champions.

The two sides will settle it in the return leg on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.
