Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz have concluded their transfer business by signing former Gor Mahia left-back Shafik Batambuze.
The Ugandan makes another return to the Premier League after initially playing for not only Gor Mahia but also Sofapaka, Tusker, and Western Stima FC.
“We are glad to announce we have completed the signing of Ugandan international Shafik Buchu Batambuze.
The experienced left-footed defender joins the club from Tanzanian side Singida Fountain Gate FC. He completes the club’s mid-season transfer business.
“Welcome, Bhuchu,” Homeboyz announced.
Batambuze’s arrival is set to strengthen the backline as his experience, gained from playing in different leagues in his expansive career, is set to help solidify the defensive unit of the Bukhungu-based club.
The Ugandan is set, from a leadership perspective, to fill the void left by Robinson Kamura, who parted ways with Homeboyz late last year.
Batambuze’s deal has been confirmed after the 2023 FKF Cup winners revealed the signing of Nobert Occhieng. The youngster was signed from St Peters Mumias Boys High School, although the details of his contract have not been made public.
Homeboyz have also brought on board experienced defender Salim Odeka, who has been signed from Tanzania’s Geita Gold FC.
With their title race running out of steam, the new arrivals are expected to give the club a new impetus. Homeboyz started slowly, picked up in the middle of the first round, but have been unable to keep up with the pace in the second round of the Premier League.
