Harry Maguire’s move from Man Utd to West Ham stalls
By Story Agencies, August 15, 2023Harry Maguire’s potential move from Manchester United to West Ham has stalled.
West Ham believe they have a full agreement with Man Utd on a fee and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.
However, it’s thought Maguire’s exit from Old Trafford has not been resolved.
West Ham remain interested in the England defender and are ready to do a deal, but will look at other options.
Maguire was named as a substitute for United’s 1-0 victory against Wolves last night with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez preferred by Erik ten Hag.
The 30-year-old was left on the bench for the full match despite Ten Hag making a defensive change at the break. Victor Lindelof replaced Martinez, who was booked in the first half, ahead of Maguire, leaving Sky Sports’ Gary Neville to claim that his former club are trying to “manage” the defender out of the club.
He told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports: “They’re trying to manage Harry Maguire out of the club and get their money for him there is no doubt about that.”
However, Ten Hag has always maintained he is happy for players to stay and fight for their place.
The development could have implications for United incomings. They have held talks with Bayern Munich about potentially signing defender Benjamin Pavard.
Pavard will “fight as hard as possible” for move to United from Bayern, but the clubs are far apart in their valuations.
Talks are ongoing between the clubs. However, the transfer will only happen if Maguire leaves Old Trafford.
United have done due diligence on several defenders, including Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice but it’s thought any outlays will likely depend on departures.
