Harambee Stars vs Burundi kick-off time confirmed
By Dennis Onyancha, June 5, 2024
Harambee Stars‘ timings for their two World Cup Qualifier matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast have been confirmed.
Stars, who play host in both matches will play Burundi in their first of the two qualifier matches on Friday 7, 2024, at 4 pm Kenyan time at the Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The second match against African Champions Ivory Coast is set to be played out at the same venue, on Tuesday, June 11, 2014, at 4 pm Kenyan time, giving the Engin Firat-coached side a three-day rest between the matches.
Stars to use Bingu Stadium
The federation was forced to settle for Bingu Stadium in Malawi as Harambee Stars’ home ground for the qualifiers after the country found itself without a CAF-approved stadium with both the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium closed for renovations.
Head coach Firat had in an earlier explainer outlined why the team had settled for Bingu Stadium, saying Harambee Stars’ recent success in the Four Nations tournament played a key role in the decision.
Defender Eric Ouma who still remains a doubt for the qualifiers in Malawi has been the latest to decry the lack of CAF-ready local stadia.
“It is disappointing that as a country of over 50 million people, we don’t have a stadium that is CAF approved. I have however seen the government trying to put up stadiums in different areas and it’s my hope that it will meet the required set of standards,” Ouma said.
“It is a different feeling and atmosphere playing in front of our fans. The support would have been massive but for now, we will miss their support that pushes the team to give better performances.”
