Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija delivered a dominant performance in Kenya's goalless draw against Ivory Coast in the World Cup Qualifiers, earning admiration from all quarters.

Pitted against the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kofi Adingra, Omija's debut at the heart of the Kenyan defense was instrumental in keeping the African champions at bay and earned him the Stars' Man of the Match honors.

The 21-year-old recorded four tackles, three possession turnovers, and one block, showcasing his defensive prowess against the Elephants. Omija also played a crucial role in Kenya's buildup, completing 25 passes, including two progressive ones.

The defender, who plays for Dhofar in the Oman Professional League, expressed his elation on social media a day after the national side returned from Malawi, promising his followers even more in the future.

Having risen from the U17 national team ranks, Omija, who looks up to Senegalese centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, seems poised to take over the reins in the senior team with his exceptional talent.

Summary: Harambee Stars vs. Ivory Coast

The first half ended goalless, with both sides failing to capitalize on their chances. In the second half, Ivory Coast came close in the 56th minute, but debutant Alphonce Omija made a crucial block to prevent a goal-bound shot.

Kenya also had their moments but struggled with the final ball delivery. In the 70th minute, Timothy Ouma had a clear chance, but Yahia Fofana came off his line to deny Kenya the lead.

Kenya continued to push forward but remained unfruitful. In the 82nd minute, Michael Olunga managed to unleash a goal-bound shot despite pressure from an Ivorian defender, but Fofana stopped it.

Ivory Coast missed another chance when Oumar Diakite unleashed a shot following Simon Adingira's run on the left side. The ball bounced off the crossbar before the referee called for offside.
