Scottish Premiership side St Mirren FC, home to Kenyan international Jonah Ayunga, is a game away from domestic silverware after edging Motherwell 4-1 on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Saints made light work of their opponents in the decisive League Cup semifinal play-off staged at the iconic Hampden Park to seal their berth in the finals.

Michael Mandron opened the scores after 25 minutes when he slammed home from a back-flick by Alex Gogic off a corner.

The visitors doubled the lead just before the break through Dan Nlundulu’s drive past the keeper after a clearance broke his way.

Ayunga, who missed out on the latest list of Harambee Stars call-ups, was a second-half substitute, entering the fray for Nlundulu in the 63rd minute.

An impressive Mandron rounded up his man-of-the-match performance by setting up Richard King for the visitors’ third.

He sealed his brace moments after with a rebounded effort after his earlier shot hit the post.

Motherwell’s lone goal was by Callum Hendry in the 83rd minute.

With the win, Stephen Robinson’s team advanced to the final to be played on December 14 against the winner of Glasgow Celtic vs Rangers.

The two sides will meet to determine the winner of the second semi-final play-off against the Saints.

Finale-bound

Speaking after the victory, Robinson attributed the success to a well-executed game philosophy by his charges.

The coach was specifically pleased with his team’s offensive display.

“We did not need to do many things in terms of motivation. We could have scored more, and I am delighted with the coaching staff for getting this done. The players to credit have to go to them: they managed the game and the occasion, and we certainly enjoyed the game,” he stated.

In the league standings, Saints are ranked 10th in the 2025–26 Scottish Premiership table after 10 matches.

They have amassed 10 points from 2 wins, 4 draws, and 4 losses, with a goal difference of -4.
