Governor Kihika puts contractor on notice over Afraha Stadium delays

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has put on notice the contractor tasked with the upgrading of the multi-billion-shilling Afraha Stadium over delays.

The move follows reports that the stadium had stalled while at 30 per cent complete despite the first phase having been scheduled to be completed in May this year.

Kihika who spoke yesterday revealed that continued delay in the facility was denying youths an opportunity to nurture their talents.

According to Kihika, she met the contractor over the delay and they agreed that the stadium should be completed as soon as possible.

Massive delays

“I was at the stadium to assess the progress and I found massive delays, I told the contractor to complete it at once or ship out so that we can bring other contractors,” said Kihika.

She observed that in the past the stadium has seen a promotion of talent saying the continued closure is detrimental to the youth saying a few months’ sports will be back.

“I want to commit that we will ensure the same is successful as we even look for more partners in this journey,” the Governor said.

The first phase of the upgrade to international standards was expected to be completed in May allowing sporting activities to resume in June, which is not the case.

She added her government is doing its part to have top-class sports facilities in the county.
