By , August 6, 2024

Football Kenya Federation Premier League fans will now not get the 2024/25 season curtain-raiser entertainment between Gor Mahia and Police FC as the match has been cancelled.

According to a statement shared by the Premier League champions, the FKF Shield Cup showdown has been cancelled due to the unavailability of a suitable venue.

The game had been scheduled for Sunday, August 11 at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in a Community Shield match.

“This difficult decision has been necessitated by unforeseen challenges in securing a suitable venue to host the match.

“Despite our best efforts and extensive search, we have been unable to find a facility that meets the required standards for this prestigious fixture within the required time frame,” the FKF statement cancelling the match as quoted by Gor Mahia said.

K’Ogalo have now said their focus is on the CAF Champions League match against El Merreikh Bentiu of South Sudan next week in Juba.

K’Ogalo will continue its intense training for the CAF Champions League preliminary round,” the statement added.

To keep the team in a competitive shape, Gor Mahia are looking at the possibility of securing a friendly game against Tanzania’s Fountain Gate FC.

“The management will also consider the possibility of playing against Fountain Gate FC on Tanzania Day, which falls on Sunday, August 9, 2024. The hosts have expressed interest in playing against the Kenyan champions,” Gor Mahia concluded.

Meanwhile, if Gor Mahia eliminate the Champions League opponents from South Sudan, they will set a date against the Egyptian giants and the defending champions, Al Ahly.

On the other hand, Police will be debuting in the CAF Confederation Cup and are scheduled to face Ethiopia Coffee FC.
