Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry has admitted to being impressed with the team’s position so far in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League but maintained they will keep pushing to exceed their previous success.

The reigning champions are currently sitting top of the 18-team table with 43 points from 19 and this is 10 more than second-placed Nairobi City Stars, while Posta Rangers are third with 32 and Tusker fourth with 31.

On top of leading the table, K’Ogalo remains the only unbeaten side in the top flight as they have managed 12 wins, seven draws, and zero defeats. According to Northern Irish tactician, who guided the team to their record 20th league title last season, Gor Mahia are having a good first half of the campaign and it will get even better as the league moves to a conclusion.

“We are having a good first half of the season, and you saw recently six of our players were named in the FKF Premier League team of the first leg, it means we are leading and my promise to the fans is that it is going to get even better,” said the former Uganda Cranes coach.

Last season, K’Ogalo were crowned champions with 70 points, one more than second-placed Tusker while Kenya Police came third on 64, Nzoia Sugar fourth on 64, and KCB fifth on 64 and according to McKinstry, Gor Mahia will strive to improve on the result.

“We will continue pushing to ensure the second half of the season not only win our matches but exceeds what has gone before,” said McKinstry.

After losing Ugandan midfielder Roger Mugisha to Danish Division One outfit AC Horsens, Gor Mahia have already entered the transfer market by signing midfielder Shariff Musa, who was a target for AFC Leopards and Bandari FC, from Bidco United. Musa has also played for Soy United and Kariobangi Sharks.
Gor Mahia will continue with their hunt for the title when they Kenya Police at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday. During the first round meeting, Gor Mahia carried the day after defeating the law enforcers 1-0 courtesy of an Austin Odhiambo goal.
