Gor Mahia whitewash Muhoroni Youth to retain Premier League trophy

By , May 19, 2024

Gor Mahia have retained the Football Kenya Federation Premier League title after beating Muhoroni Youth 3-0 on Sunday, May 19, 2024.

This is unprecedented history in the top flight, as Gor Mahia lifted their 21st title following a huge win in Murang’a.

With three matches remaining in the season, goals from Benson Omala, Austin Odhiambo, and Boniface Omondi ensured that K’Ogalo did not surrender the title.

Kenya Police, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Posta Rangers, as well as Tusker, were Gor Mahia’s title rivals at some point in the season but finally failed to stop the giants from cruising to their record-breaking title.

Meanwhile, K’Ogalo grabbed the lead in the 43rd minute, and Omala, who is fighting to win the Golden Boot, scored from the spot.

K’Ogalo were awarded a penalty in the 42nd minute, and Omala stepped in but failed to convert the spot-kick as he sent the ball over the bar.

The lead was extended in the third minute of the second half when Omondi scored to reward Gor Mahia’s effort with a vital goal.

The third goal was scored late in the second half, with the influential Odhiambo finding the back of the net. As they attacked, Muhoroni Youth left spaces in their defensive zone, and Gor Mahia fully exploited them and sealed their win and title in the process.

Now, subject to club licensing, Gor Mahia are set to take part in the CAF Champions League next season.
