Gaspo replaces Vihiga Queens at top of WPL table

The ping-pong run at the top of the Women Premier League Championship is getting more interesting after Gaspo Women FC once again took over the mantle at the top of the table, replacing rivals and defending champions Vihiga Queens at the weekend.
Gaspo on 31 points currently lead the table after 14 matches following their impressive 3-0 win over Kayole Starlets FC at Camp Toyoyo Grounds. Diana Wacera opened the scoring in the second minute after a fine strike. Anna Arusi had the second inside 20 minutes which then effectively ended the game 2-0 in the first half. Starlets who are last in the log, had some rarer moments in the opponents’ box but ultimately were not a threat. In the second half late in extra time, Mutukiza Wambui had the third and the last goal of the game. Gaspo are now on a +37 goal difference.
Vihiga Queens also won albeit by a small margin in their 1-0 win over Zetech Sparks FC at GEMS Cambridge Grounds .The lone goal came in the second half of play via a 62nd minute strike courtesy of Maurine Achieng. Queens are joint leaders with 31 points as well off 14 games played but with a leaner -2 goal difference.
Meanwhile, visiting Nakuru City Queens FC came from the back to beat hosts Kangemi Ladies FC 3-2 to keep up pace at the top. They are now two places up to third in the table with 27 points.
The five goal thriller saw the Kangemi Ladies team stun the visiting side with a second minute lead through Emphreza Anyango but Queens forward Elizabeth Muteshi equalized for the visitors in the 42nd minute as the match wound up 1-1 in the first half.
The second half began with a bang as the match sprung alive. City Queens led by Leah Wanjala in the 41st minute before Elizabeth Muteshi added a second a minute later to take the lead with 42nd minute.
Kangemi star attacker Daisy Cherop netted the equalizer for Kangemi in the 60th minute for the lead via Daisy Cherop before Ulinzi took it home with a 92nd minute for her second.
