Four-Nation Tournament enters final day ahead of CHAN 2024

By , July 27, 2025

The CECAFA Four-Nations Tournament that Kenya’s Harambee Stars opted out of is set to conclude this Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Karatu, Arusha, Tanzania.

The mini-tournament scheduled as part of the preparations for the upcoming CHAN 2024 games saw Uganda, Tanzania, and Senegal participate as the only sides after Kenya opted to pull out on Monday, July 22, 2025, citing poor infrastructure and planning.

The curtain will close down on the week-long event with Tanzania facing reigning CHAN champions Senegal in the final match this Sunday, July 27, 2025.

In the preceding fixtures, Uganda fell to a solitary goal against Tanzania before edging Senegal in their final clash.

Following the clash against Senegal, the Cranes returned to Kampala to continue their preparations at home ahead of their continental opener at the Namboole stadium.

CHAN openers

The Cranes will face off against Algeria on August 4, as Tanzania hosts Burkina Faso in Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in the opener.

Meanwhile, speaking on the overall tournament, Tanzania skipper Hussein Mohammed lauded the tourney hosting as key to assessing their chances ahead of the actual tournament kickoff.

“We have had good preparations here and enjoyed the games as we angle for the CHAN games. We next face our final match here before we return to Dar es Salaam. The most important thing is that the coaches have had the chance to see and assess that we are in capacity to do well in the CHAN games,” he told TFF.

The foregoing comes after Kenya Harambee Stars on Saturday, July 26, 2025, also held a friendly tie against Kenya Police as part of their preparations for the tournament.

During the tie, Benni McCarthy’s charges claimed a comfortable 4-0 win over the reigning Football Federation Premier League side.

CHAN beckons

The test match, coming just a week away from the start of the competition on home soil, availed a further opportunity for McCarthy to assess his charges on a competitive front, after Kenya’s preparations were thrown in disarray following the team’s decision to opt out of the scheduled Four Nations Tournament.
