FKF Premier League: Kakamega Homeboyz upbeat ahead of Mara Sugar clash
By Joel Masibo, September 27, 2025Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz are targeting a win against Mara Sugar in their fixture of the 2025/26 season on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Green Stadium in Awendo.
Speaking ahead of the match, Kakamega Homeboyz assistant head coach Paul Okatwa expressed confidence in the team that has blended fresh blood and experience.
”We are confident that we will get a positive result because we have a well-oiled team that’s a blend of young and senior players, which is an advantage to any team. Last season we finished 3rd, and we believe that coming to this season, we want to better the result and fight for the league title,” Okatwa said.
The Kakamega-based outfit will be without the services of midfielder Kevin Amwayi, who is nursing an injury alongside Gospel Otieno Okoth.
”First game last season we faced Mara away, and we are playing them again this season. We are looking for a positive result after being beaten last season by them, ” Okatwa opined.
On his side, team captain Moses Mudavadi believes that the squad will build on last season’s momentum for a positive outcome in Migori County on Saturday and throughout the season.
”We are ready. We are not new in the league; we are an experienced side, having gotten good results in the past seasons. We have targets that we have set, and we will be aiming for history, though I know that it won’t be easy, but what must happen is the focus from the players in the match against Mara Sugar,” Mudavadi said.
However, the Kakamega Homeboyz skipper is wary of the threat that Mara Sugar poses.
”We faced them last season, and they comprehensively defeated us, and their current coach used to be here at Kakamega Homeboyz. He’s a coach who knows us well. But we will fight for the points, and we are hopeful of getting the win,” Mudavadi added.
