FKF caretaker committee to meet club officials, referee after Nick Mwendwa stepped down
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) caretaker committee is set to meet football club officials and referees today to deliberate on how they would approach league resumption in the country.
In a communication by KTN news anchor Linda Ogutu who is the head of the committee’s secretariat said it has taken note of several requests to set a date, with Premier League clubs officials and referees.
"FKF caretaker committee invites one official representative from every team for a meeting at Nyayo National stadium VIP lounge boardroom on Thursday, December 2, 2021," Ogutu said.
This will be the third meeting for the caretaker committee, following successful meetings between the FKF Premier League clubs representatives and those of the National Super League (NSL) last week.
The new fangled FKF Caretaker Committee on Friday, November 12, 2021 suspended all top tier football leagues for a period of two weeks.
In a press statement the committee said that its members unanimously decided to suspend; The FKF Premier League, FKF National Super League, FKF Division One, FKF Women's Premier League and FKF Women's Division 1 League.
The Aaron Ringera led committee further stated that they reached the decision to ensure regularisation of the league activities across the country.
"The committee will be engaging with clubs and other football stakeholders in due course. Leagues running under the Branches and sub Banches should continue as normal," the statement read in part.
The newly formed committee assured football fans that it will work to ensure smooth operations of all football activities across the nation.
This comes after suspended FKF President Nick Mwendwa stepped aside.
In a letter on Tuesday, Mwendwa handed over the duties of the federation to vice president Doris Petra.
"In light of the foregoing, specifically, the frequent arrests and detentions, which have adversely affected my family and personal business and whilst I am confident I will be cleared of any wrongdoing in the end, I have today in accordance with Article 42(8) of the FKF constitution (2017)asked my Vice President Madam Doris Petra to assume all functions of the FKF president," he wrote.
He added: "Taking into consideration that I am personally being targeted in all this, my decision, has been arrived at with the federation’s best interest at heart."
He said the case he was facing had affected his family and businesses.
Mwendwa's move came after a court on Tuesday charged him with Ksh38 million fraud.
Mwendwa pleaded not guilty and Milimani senior principal magistrate Eunice Nyutu granted him Sh10 million bail or bonds of Ksh15 million.
Mwendwa had been in police custody since Friday afternoon.
He was initially arrested on November 12 and spent a weekend behind bars before being released on a bail of Sh4 million as investigations continued.
The magistrate ordered Mwendwa be refunded his bail payment.
