Experts set up athletics equipment at Kasarani

Experts from Belgium-based sports events and entertainment company, Golazo Group spent the better part of yesterday morning setting up equipment at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani ahead of Saturday’s Kip Keino Classic.
It will be the third season Golazo, who are also the organisers of the AG Memorial Van Damme World Athletics Diamond League meeting will be part of the only Continental Tour event in Africa.
Galazo has partnered with Athletics Kenya to organise the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, Kenyan leg (Kip Keino Classic) in Nairobi since its inaugural edition in 2020.
“The team was at the competition venue to help put in place broadcast and other technical equipment ahead of our event on Saturday,” said meet director Barnaba Korir.
“The electronic timing system has been set up in the stadium alongside other live broadcast equipment.
The refurbishment of the media tribune which has been going on is at 90 percent complete,” said Korir.
The showstopper event will be the men’s 100m where Olympic champion Jacobs Marcell from Italy will battle with African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala and Olympic 200m silver medalist Fred Kerley. The race is set for 5.55pm.
Three time Olympics 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaican against Tokyo Olympics 200m silver medallist Christine Mboma of Namibia and American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson among others, will face off at at 4.04pm.
The women’s 200m is set for 5.22pm. Four-time world hammer throw champion Paweł Fajdek and Olympics champion Wojciech Nowicki, all from Poland, will renew their rivalry in Nairobi from 4.24pm.
Olympic champion Anita Wlodarczyk from Poland headlines the women’s hammer throw event that will get underway at 2.20pm.
