Duo claim victories in MX2, MX125 classes as motocross enters round 7

Ethan Nyachae shrugged off stiff competition from Rolf Kihara and Kigen Kiplagat to win the MX2 Class at Jamhuri Motocross Park at the weekend.
In a scene reminiscent of a war zone, Nyachae was in cruise mode atop his KTM 125 bike with some spectacular speeds and turns which earned him three consecutive chequered flags as his immediate rivals Kihara played catch up while Kiplagat retired his bike after mechanical breakdowns.
Nyachae, who missed the last round, has now surpassed Kiplagat in the class and leads the table with 292 points after six rounds in the Kenya National Motocross Championships.
Kihara, who emerged second overall on Sunday after two runners up positions and a third spot in heat two, was an excellent challenger all through.
His push on the corners and swift manoeuvres while in attack form was in awe as he often wowed the crowds with his jumps which left dust in the air.
“I think I pushed to the limit which was fun. I was hungry for a win but there is still time to rectify the few mistakes perhaps as I also still chase the championship,” Kihara told People Sport after the race.
Tai Wahome bossed the MX 125 Class as he easily sprung to victory in all the heats. Wahome was always strong on the start and utilised the spaces afforded to him by his rivals.
At his rear was the equally fast Dylan Mutahi who finished second twice but had a terrible third heat where he came in last after struggling for pace and is now tied on 47 points with Christian Chege.
Mutahi currently tops the class, having collected 355 points, a 71 digit gap over the nearest challengers.
Another exciting race, the MX 85 Class witnessed a battle of supremacy with guest rider Kylan Wekesa of Uganda once again breaking the hearts of Kenyan fans after stealing the overall win.
The official top points position, however, went to Alex Kandie who showed calmness and maturity while chasing the Ugandan rider. Kandie and Neo Wahome, who was also pushing the limits, shared the podium just ahead of Nandi Kiplagat.
