Driftwood 7s: Kabras shifts focus to MMUST after group phase cruise
By Luke Oluoch, July 27, 2025Kabras Sugar Rugby Club has shifted its focus to the Sunday, July 27, 2025, clash against Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) as the competition enters the quarterfinal stage in Mombasa Sports Club.
The western-based club will be out to pit wits against their neighbourly rivals in a clash that promises to be explosive, with a berth in the semifinals at stake.
“Twafungua siku na wale majirani zetu wa pale Lurambi MMUST kwenye robo fainali. Hii itakuwa ya kukata na shoka! Asitumwe mtoto dukani juu hii si ya kukosa.”
“We begin our day against our neighbours from Lurambi, MMUST, in the quarter finals. This will be an explosive one. Let all other activities be put to a halt, as this is not one to be missed,” an update from the club read.
Carlos Katywa charges head into the clash after an easy cruise in the preliminary stages of the Driftwood Sevens.
Kabras cruise
Kabras shrugged off Wanyore in an emphatic 26-0 whitewash to commence their current edition of the competitions.
Roy Maruti, Jackson Siketi, and Lameck Ambesta all came up handy in the wins with tries.
A 21-7 victory inspired by William Mwanji proved sufficient as the side downed Impala in their second group clash.

Brian Mutua added to the scores to seal an unbeaten start to the games for the western-based team.
The group phase cruise was sealed by a 29-0 win over the Catholic Monks, securing the team’s passage to the next stage, where the Masinde Muliro now awaits.
In the other main cup quarterfinal clash, Menengai Oilers will face off against KCB Rugby.
The clash will kick off at 11:20 am.
Meanwhile, KCB Rugby and defending champs Kenya Harlequins are among the other sides who will be battling it out in the main cup quarters.
The Bankers showed their early intentions in Group C with a hard-fought 24-14 victory over Daystar Falcons before thrashing hosts Mombasa Sports Club 43-0 in their second match.
