Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed on Thursday disbanded the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and she formed a caretaker committee to govern the country’s football.
The CS said the committee with run Kenyan football for the next six months and it will be chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera.
Other members of the committee include Hassan Haji, Elisha Kiplagat, Anthony Isayi, General Retired Moses Oyugi and Fatma Adan.
The disbandment of the football body comes after CS Amina received an audit report on FKF from Sports Registrar Rose Wasike.
Amina said she disbanded the football body after FKF failed to account for the monies it has been allocated for by her ministry.
“Over the past few years, the Football Kenya Federation has faced several governance issues that have been of great concern to the Ministry. First, the Football Kenya Federation has failed to account for all the monies allocated to it by the Government,” Amina said.
“The beneficiaries are aware that they are required to fully disclose any financial assistance received from other sponsors. Football Kenya Federation has failed short of this requirement,” she added.
Ambassador Amina said that the care committee will take over from FKF and take charge of all the duties that were mandated to the football federation.
She said that the committee will ensure that the Football Federation of Kenya is operated within the law as well as coordinate elections of FKF officials.
The CS also noted that the committee will also have the duty to hand over the newly elected officials to the new body that will be established at a later date.
“The Ministery of Sports, Culture and Heritage shall facilitate the operations of the Caretaker Committee,” she added.
