Congolese import Gedeon Bendeka released by Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia FC has confirmed parting ways with Congolese striker Gedeon Bendeka Mololia.

The club announced the attacker’s departure through its X page on Wednesday, August 20, 2025

“We have parted ways with striker Gedeon Bendeka on mutual agreement. We are grateful for his dedication and service and wish him the very best in his endeavours,” the club’s statement on the player read.

Bendeka joined Gor Mahia in June 2024, after agreeing to a two-year contract from Rwanda’s Etincelles FC.

He was one of the club’s new signings in a recruitment drive that also included Samuel Onyango from Kenya Police FC (formerly City Stars), Chris Akena (Apollon, Greece), Ghanaian Enock Morrison (Asante Kotoko, Ghana), and defender Alphonce Omija (Dhofar, Oman).

The mid-season signing arrived at Gor Mahia to much fanfare, coming from a rich vein of goal-scoring form with Etincelles FC, where he had netted 13 goals in 22 games in the season.

Struggles

This haul ranked him as the third-best scorer in the Rwandan league.

However, Bendeka failed to replicate his form at Gor Mahia and often found himself on the substitute bench during the concluded season.

This departure comes after other recent exits, including Rodgers Ouma, who mutually parted ways with the team after a two-year stay with the champions.

Ouma’s exit came almost a month after Gor Mahia announced the departures of Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango, two long-serving players, as part of a wider shake-up ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Under Charles Akkonor’s leadership, Gor Mahia has recently announced the signing of Harambee Stars defensive duo Michael Kibwage and Lewis Banda, formerly with AFC Leopards.

The club is also understood to be adding Harambee Stars’ current hero in the ongoing CHAN 2024 games, Ryan Ogam, to its roster for the 2025/26 season.

Gor, through Deputy patron Eliud Owalo, has been undergoing significant changes following a trophyless season that saw the club embark on a massive purge of the playing unit and technical bench.

TThe club sacked interim head coach Zedekiah Otieno and his technical bench days after losing the FKF Cup to Nairobi United. The dismissal was later extended to the top hierarchy of the club, with the Chief Executive Officer Ray Oruo and team doctors also parting company with the club in a major change in the club’s leadership structure
