It's Kenya's second medal in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth games as Margaret Muriuki affirms a second place position bagging silver in 2:28:00.

Australia's Jessica Stenson proved to be too tough for Muriuki during the last 5KM stretch in the process clinching gold at 2:27:31.

Namibian Helalia Johannes closed the podium in third place clocking a time of 2:28:39.

36 year old Muriuki had stayed on course right behind two time - commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jessica Stenson through to the last 20KM but was unable to keep up with her immense pace.

Stenson with an incredible run, broke clear inside the final 10 kilometres before claiming her maiden gold. Stenson was actually one of three Australians in the race along with Eloise Wellings and Sinead Diver.

Heading past the 30 kilometre mark, the two other Australians, along with most of the field, dropped off but Stenson held firm with the frontrunners Helalia Johannes and Kenyan Margaret Wangari Muriuki.
