Champions KCB storm into Floodlit rugby Cup finals

Floodlit Cup defending champions KCB Rugby showcased their resilience and teamwork as they stormed through to the finals of the tournament after a 14-3 win over Kenyatta University’s Blak Blads in a fixture staged at the Impala grounds.

The Bankers’ eighth man Peter Waitere and scrum-half Brian Waihinya scored the only tries of the game with fullback Isaac Njoroge converting the extras to ensure the Curtis Olago-coached side qualify for their fourth consecutive final in the tournament.

The win now sees the Bankers meet Ngong road-based side Nondescripts in the final of the tournament which comes to an end this weekend after three weekends of attractive rugby by the participating teams.

Nondies on their side stunned Menengai Oilers 16-11 in an early kick-off fixture played at the same grounds. On their way to the finals, KCB scored a try and three penalties against Kenya Harlequins as they won 14-10 in an enticing fixture staged at the Impala club.

Quins managed a converted try and a penalty which was not enough to eliminate the defending champions.

On their side, Nondies hammered hosts Impala Saracens 33-7 to knock out the Championship side

Both games had been postponed by the tournament officials after the event officials and tournament organisers concurred that the was poor lighting ahead of the two remaining fixtures of the day.
